Police mentioned they were alerted by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then found numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police state early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.

An important representative commented the vandalism left him without words and required to be resolved quickly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
